Vorbild
Die Baureihe 03.10 war eine Weiterentwicklung der Fahrzeuge der Baureihe 03, vergleichbar mit den Fahrzeugen der Baureihe 01.10 welche aus der Baureihe 01 hervorgingen. Die erste 03.10 wurde 1939 gebaut. Geplant war die Herstellung von 140 dieser voll verkleideten Maschinen. Durch den Zweiten Weltkrieg bedingt, wurden nur 60 Fahrzeuge fertiggestellt. Alle 03.10er waren mit dem Einheitstender 2'2 T 34 St gekuppelt. Die hauptsächlich durch die Firma Borsig, aber auch durch die Firmen Krupp und Krauss-Maffei, hergestellten Fahrzeuge waren voll verkleidet mit geschlossener und ausgesparter Triebwerksschürze. Die Fahrzeuge hatten die Betriebsnummern 03 1001–1022, 03 1043–1060 und 03 1073–1092. Nach dem Krieg gelangten 26 Loks zur DB, 21 zur DR (DDR) und 10 zur polnischen PKP (Pm3). Zwei Maschinen (03 1091 und 03 1092) mussten bereits 1944 wegen Kriegsschäden ausgemustert werden. Der Verbleib der 03 1002 ist unbekannt. Da durch Streckenschäden die Höchstgeschwindigkeit auf Hauptstrecken herunter gesetzt wurde, waren die Stromlinienverkleidungen unwirtschaftlich geworden und wurden bei allen Maschinen (außer 03 1087 der DR), nicht zuletzt wegen der durch die Verkleidung erschwerten Wartung, entfernt. Fast alle Loks der DR und DB wurden rekonstruiert. Nur die 03 1047, 1097 und 1086 (DR) waren bereits vor der Rekonstruktion ausgemustert worden.
