Vorbild

Die Baureihe V 200.0 (ab 1968 Baureihe 220, später bei der SBB: Am 4/4) war eine der ersten Diesel-Streckenlokomotiven der Deutschen Bundesbahn (DB). Ihre markante Optik entspricht dem typischen Industriedesign der 1950er-Jahre.

Im Betrieb wurden die V 200.0 häufig überfordert, so dass es zu Schäden kam. Die Deutsche Bundesbahn stellte daher ab 1962 die stärkere Baureihe V 200.1 (später Baureihe 221) in Dienst.

In den 1980er-Jahren wurden sieben Lokomotiven der Baureihe 220 an die Schweizerische Bundesbahnen (SBB) verkauft und dort als Baureihe Am 4/4 in den Dienst gestellt. Weitere Verkäufe der 220 erfolgten noch Italien.

Eine größere Anzahl von Loks der Baureihe 221 wurden nach Griechenland an die OSE verkauft und dort als Baureihe A410 eingeordnet.

Insgesamt 20 der nach Griechenland verkauften Lokomotiven BR 221 wurden 2002 durch die Prignitzer Eisenbahn GmbH wieder zurück nach Deutschland geholt, einige wurden überholt und an diverse Privatbahngesellschaften veräußert.

Farbvarianten

Gemäß dem damals gültigen Farbschema waren alle Maschinen der DB zu Anfang altrot lackiert. Mit dem ab 1974 gültigen Farbschema ozeanblau/beige wurden die Lokomotiven darin umgespritzt.
