Die Baureihe 55 (bis 1970 Reihe 205) ist eine Diesellokomotive der SNCB. Sie sind Lizenzbauten auf Basis der US-Lok Typ F7. Somit sind diese Loks vom Kern her ähnlich wie die SNCB-Reihe 202–204. Jedoch durch eine bessere Kraftstoff- und Luftzufuhr konnte die Leistung im Vergleich zu den Baureihen 52-54 um 200 PS erhöht werden. Zusätzlich wurde der Lokomotivkasten dem herrschenden Trend kantiger und in der Herstellung billigerer Formen angepasst.
Hersteller der Fahrzeuge dieser Baureihe war La Brugeoise et Nivelles.
Baugleiche Maschinen dieses Typs laufen auch für die CFL als Baureihe 1800.
